The 1980/81 Season was a dramatic turnaround for Aston Villa, as Ron Saunders completed the Club?s revival to end a substantial 71-year wait for the League Championship trophy. Competing in a two-horse race with Ipswich Town during the final stages of the season, the Midlands side pipped the Suffolk side to the post, and ensured the silverware headed to Villa Park.

Holding the record for the least number of players to feature in a team to win the league, just 14 players were used throughout the campaign to ensure that the trophy belonged to Aston Villa.
